Taming This Tyke's Voice Since 2007

Summer, Gone

You came to bring me summer sunshine,

You left to leave me autumn gloom.

Like a speeding train,

Summer came

And Gone.

What happened to the vibrant days,

Where have my sunshine gone?

Why do the clouds just suddenly

Hid you?

My smile, don’t fade away

Please no!

Why do you have to give up

Your sunny yellow ~

Have I not brought

Your life some bright lights,

Why do we have to go apart

In blue?

Would the evening light

Sustain us

In this changing season,

Would it ease

The growing yearning

With its subdued

I rest my heart

In this lonely season.

But I would keep our paths

Of grass growths.

May the railroad

That took you away

Would lead you

And when you’re tired

Chasing the changing seasons,

You could always return

To an endless

Summer ~

Here in my resolute

  1. So many moods in a summer’s passing, it is truly a lonely time, but time to reflect on many pathes taken and many paths to take. Your words are full of so much hope and it is true, if we want we can have summer in our souls forever…with a pause and a thought.

And yes, old things to me hold memories, especially old tools, photos and objects of a housewife’s toil. Being able to slow ones life and utilize the tools of old in their precisional manner, like putting up food stores for the winter and hanging clothes on the line to dry, even in winter or making soaps, simple daily toil in a world so complex, we overlook the shear simpleness of their task.

Thank you so much for the kind birthday wish, friend.

  2. An interesting range of pics! Love how there is a sense of physical object symbolic of a spiritual place (like the train). Summer does seem to hold a special bright light, but sometimes we forget that light can be glaring, even draining. (I know too much about high humidity in Australia!) Each season, for me, has its own yin and yang beauties.

  3. This is indeed an interesting mix of metaphors and photos too. I love how you’ve incorporated the train coming and going with the changing of the season. Wonderful, as usual Jeques. I love stopping in to read your latest work.

  4. Jeques, this is just lovely. The pictures, the words – such sybolism. Now for Autumn!

  5. jeques, the image of the train will never leave my mind as i am reading this beautiful poem. and these lines catch my breath as;

    Would the evening light

    Sustain us

    In this changing season,

    Would it ease

    The growing yearning

    With its subdued

there is a deep longing here to be with someone who is away. a melancholic piece.
